Use LinkAssist in ChatGPT, Claude & Cursor (MCP)

Connect LinkAssist to your AI app over MCP so it can write, schedule and publish LinkedIn posts in your voice.

LinkAssist works inside the AI apps you already use. Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or any other app that supports MCP to write a post in your voice, attach an image, and schedule or publish it, without opening the dashboard.

Your AI app uses the same LinkAssist writer, User DNA, templates and quality checks as the dashboard. Everything it creates shows up in your LinkAssist drafts and calendar.

AI app connections are included on the Trial, Starter, Growth and Enterprise plans.

Your connection URL

https://app.linkassist.ai/api/mcp

You can also copy it from Settings → MCP in LinkAssist, which has the same setup steps for each app and prompts you can copy.

There is no API key or token to paste. The first time you connect, your AI app opens a LinkAssist page in your browser and you press Connect.

Connect your AI app

The first time you connect, your AI app opens a LinkAssist page in your browser. Log in with LinkedIn if asked, check what the app will be able to do, and press Connect. You're sent back to your AI app, connected.

ChatGPT

Open Apps & Connectors

In ChatGPT, go to Settings → Apps & Connectors. Custom connectors need Developer mode, which you can turn on under Advanced settings.

Create the connector

Click Create, name it LinkAssist, paste the connection URL and choose OAuth as the authentication.

Press Connect

Log in to LinkAssist in the window that opens and press Connect.

Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)

Open Connectors

Go to Settings → Connectors and click Add custom connector.

Add LinkAssist

Name it LinkAssist, paste the connection URL and click Add.

Press Connect

Click Connect next to LinkAssist, log in to LinkAssist and press Connect.

Cursor

Open Cursor Settings → MCP, add a new server, and paste the connection URL. Or add it to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "linkassist": { "url": "https://app.linkassist.ai/api/mcp" }
  }
}

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http linkassist https://app.linkassist.ai/api/mcp

Then run /mcp inside Claude Code, pick linkassist and press Connect in the browser window that opens.

Other apps

Any app that supports remote MCP servers works. Look for "connectors", "MCP" or "custom apps" in its settings, add the connection URL with OAuth as the sign-in method, then press Connect on the LinkAssist page that opens.

Menu names in AI apps change often. If a step above doesn't match what you see, follow the Other apps steps.

Things to ask

These are also in Settings → MCP, with a copy button next to each.

  • "Read my LinkAssist profile, then write a LinkedIn post about a lesson from this week."
  • "Plan my LinkedIn posts for this week and save them as drafts."
  • "Write a LinkedIn post about the hire we almost didn't make."
  • "What did my three best posts this month have in common?"
  • "Plan my posts for this week."
  • "You know me well. Improve my LinkAssist User DNA."
  • "Make the opening of my last draft punchier."
  • "Generate an image for this post and attach it."
  • "Schedule it for Thursday at 9am."
  • "Publish it now."

In Claude and Cursor you can also use the built-in prompts write-linkedin-post and plan-my-week.

What your AI app can do

The full list of tools, with their inputs and rules, is in the MCP tools reference. AI assistants can read it as plain text at https://help.linkassist.ai/docs/features/mcp-tools.md.

ReadYour User DNA, plan usage, drafts, scheduled and published posts, post performance, templates and today's ideas
User DNAImprove your User DNA (voice, audience, topics, opinions, expertise) from what your AI app knows about you
WriteWrite posts with the LinkAssist writer, revise them from your feedback, check any text against LinkAssist's writing rules, and save or edit drafts
ImagesAttach an image to a draft or scheduled post (PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF, up to 10 MB, 9 per post)
ScheduleSchedule, move or cancel a post
PublishPublish a post to your LinkedIn right away

Improving your User DNA

Your AI app may know you better than a profile form does. Ask it to improve your User DNA and it will read what LinkAssist has, suggest changes, and apply them once you agree. Every post LinkAssist writes afterwards uses the new version.

If you don't like a change, say "undo that": the app gets your previous values back with every update.

Images from your AI app

If your AI app made the image (for example ChatGPT image generation), it can attach it to your post directly.

Some apps, including Claude, can't hand over an image from the chat. In that case the app gives you a LinkAssist upload link: open it, choose your images and click Add. The link works for 15 minutes and only once.

Publishing safely

Publishing puts a post on LinkedIn under your name, so LinkAssist adds three safeguards:

  1. Your AI app has to ask you first. It may only publish after you've seen the final post and said to publish it.
  2. A 30 second window. A post published from your AI app goes live about 30 seconds later. Say "cancel that" in time and it goes back to your drafts.
  3. A risk check. Before scheduling or publishing, LinkAssist checks the post. If it looks risky (for example a damaging claim about a named person or company), it stays in your drafts for you to review in the dashboard.

Plan usage

AI app activity uses your plan the same way the dashboard does:

  • Each new post written or saved from your AI app counts as 1 post toward your monthly limit.
  • Revising a draft, editing it, scheduling it or publishing it doesn't use extra posts.
  • Images you bring yourself are free.

Disconnect an app

Go to Settings → MCP in LinkAssist and click Disconnect next to the app. It loses access straight away. Posts it already scheduled stay scheduled.

Troubleshooting

"Your plan doesn't include AI app connections" Your trial has ended or your plan isn't active. Upgrade from Settings → Subscription, then try again. You don't need to reconnect.

"Complete your profile setup before generating posts" Finish onboarding in the LinkAssist dashboard so the writer has your User DNA.

The connection link expired Connection and upload links only last a few minutes. Start the connection again from your AI app.

A post didn't publish Ask your AI app to check the post, or open it in LinkAssist. If your LinkedIn connection expired, reconnect LinkedIn in Settings → Account and publish again.
